4 Stages of Parenting

How you parent your children changes dramatically as they mature.  This workshop will equip you to consider how your roles change as your children go through the 4 stages of development.  We will provide a blueprint to run on so you can more clearly communicate with your children the expanding opportunities and responsibilities that each stage entails. The goal is to give our children what they need in each stage so that frustration stays low and attachment stays high.

Ever wondered how to prepare your child for the digital age while staying true to your family values? In this workshop, Karen will delve into the importance of equipping middle school students with digital literacy skills and fostering healthy technology discipline through a Biblical lens. Topics include investigating current research, engaging in collaborative discussion, and exploring digital universal supports available to HCOS students, such as Google Workspace, Read&Write, and Grammarly.  Participants will gain valuable insights and actionable steps to guide their children towards becoming responsible and empowered digital citizens, grounded in both Biblical wisdom and contemporary understanding.

Calm Parenting: Learning how to attach to your kids

In a world of so very many voices clamouring for your child’s attention to adopt values that are not yours, how is one to stay attached to their child or to rebuild attachment that has been lost?  Go on a journey of developing a mindset to connect before we direct, soften before we solve and reinforce the bonds that bind us together. We want your voice to be among the most powerful voices in their life. Join Kim and Darlene as they share practical strategies, life lessons and stories from their experiences and learning.

Step into the world of hydraulic engineering with this engaging workshop. Designed specifically for kids, this interactive activity provides an exciting opportunity for young minds to explore the principles of water-based hydraulics while discovering the environmental benefits associated with this innovative technology. In this 50 to 60-minute workshop, children will be divided into groups of 2-4, fostering teamwork and collaboration. Armed with pre-cut wood pieces, elastic bands, and a variety of raw materials, participants will embark on a creative journey to build their very own lifting machines. Guided by our experienced museum staff, kids will gain hands-on experience in designing, constructing, and operating hydraulic systems. HCOS Teacher, Paige Nichol, will also demonstrate how to use Google Docs for your online courses in Brightspace, including creating copies, using revision history, converting Microsoft Word to Google Docs, PowerPoint to Google Slides, and ending with a Q&A for any tech questions you might have. I recommend bringing a device so we can log in and work together to make the most of this time. We highly recommend you have an HCOS Google Workspace account for this student session by completing this form.
